Pepero Day is Coming Soon!

It’s not yet November but stores already displays a lot of loot for Pepero Day,  small and big pepero. I normally feel ashamed taking photos but this time I took my chance to take a snap and as what I am expected my husband walk away from me.  It looks like it is a crime to take photo ah, anyway he don’t like it when I always snap here and there, he always said I am embarrassing him.

Pepero Chocolates in Korean Supermarket

Pepero Day is an observance in South Korea similar to Valentine’s Day. It is named after the Korean snack Pepero and held on November 11, since the date “11/11” resembles four sticks of Pepero. The holiday is observed mostly by young people and couples, who exchange Pepero sticks, other candies, and romantic gifts. Lotte denies starting the holiday and instead states that they noticed a bump in Pepero sales around November 11th and after continued popularity they decided to then encourage the holiday with special gift boxes and other promotions. Some consider it to be a contrived holiday and some teachers have encouraged children to exchange healthy snacks to help combat obesity. An alternative “Garaetteok Day” (sticks of white tteok) has been proposed.

Ottogi Instant Food

When I first arrived here in Korea I don’t like the taste of the food, so aside from eating noodles all the time the instant food in this yellow boxes is always my meal until such time I also feel tired eating them.  We don’t cook in Seoul it is only later we did it, so I normally eat instant food.

Pork and Beans

I have been craving for Pork and Beans and the other day I fed that craving. We don’t really eat Pork and Beans, I just heard and saw this when I am still a toddler and since then I am fascinated what does it taste like. When I am in college and we had a tree planting, my friend and I had an agreement I would bring cooked rice and she would bring our viand. To my surprised she brought two cans of Pork and Beans., so instead of  feeling disappointed I feel excited well at least I can taste what Pork and Beans tasted like.

As what I have read the recipe for typical American canned pork and beans varies considerably, but generally consists of navy beans stewed with pork or rendered pork fat. At present, pork and beans is usually also stewed with tomatoes, but this is a 19th century development. Pork and beans is a dish that is routinely purchased canned and reheated on a stove or in a microwave oven.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Drinking Coffee

I am the only one who drink coffee here so I mostly used three-in one coffee which is  common in every store. Drinking coffee is addictive but if you don’t know coffee is actually one of the healthiest beverages billions of people consume regularly.  According to what I have read:

  • a coffee containing with bitter orange, hydroxycitric acid, and chromium can encourage an increase up to 30% in metabolic rate.
  • Coffee with exercise when taking 300mg averages a 20% increase in energy and fatigue while burning fat increased 107% greater than without caffeine.
  •  Caffeine in coffee keeps our brains alert and receptive of new information. • Regular consumption of coffee decreases the risk of type II diabetes and many other health risks.

If coffee has an advantages there’s also disadvantages:

  • Coffee when consumed in excess can be addictive, stimulate, and a mood charger. • A large amount of coffee or caffeine consumed all at once can have a negative affect on blood sugar levels that influences fat burning that could change into storing fat. • Too much coffee over time can stain your teeth.

Home-cooking and Blogging Life

I am quite busy lately and as usual both online and offline. Offline I need to cook a lot for my husband’s meal, it is every three hours. I just cooked three or four times a day because few of his meals are just whey and small portion of rice. Despite of this I still feel very busy that I felt procrastinated to post something on my blogs. Dunno if this procrastination is brought by too much work just to published a post. Imagine in WordPress I need to upload it in other site and etc. unlike in blogger all I need is to directly upload the photo in my post.

Egg and Sausages

The other night I have fried egg and few sausages, I was so hungry that I have no more time to wait if I have cooked a sour soup, so in just few minutes eating time. The sausage is quite different huh,  I missed eating tender juicy hotdogs.

Cooking Macaroni Soup

That’s what I cooked last Monday because we have a lot of left over cooked macaroni from the spaghetti that my husband cooked on my birthday. He used two packs of macaroni which is more than we need, I used some of it and we freezes the remaining macaroni.

Instead of using evaporated milk like what is usually done in Philippines I used cream powder which I bought in Nonghyup Supermarket.

My ingredients:

Carrots, cabbage, cream powder, olive oil, garlic, onion, salt, black pepper and water

My Procedure:

  • I sauteed the garlic and onion in olive oil, then when the garlic and onion are little brown I added the carrots and mixed them together with salt
  • When the carrots are partially cooked, I added water and little amount of the cream powder (You can add chicken strips if you like)
  • Then I add the macaroni and when the soup boiled I added the remaining cream powder and cabbage
  • I also added salt and pepper to taste, then I let it boiled until the carrots are soft to eat
  • Serve hot

Egg Whites with Hot and Spicy Chicken Sauce

My husband is back to his egg whites diet after our juice fasting,  so aside from boiling eggs and just eating the egg whites I also need to fry scrambled egg whites in olive oil and onions, then when it is hard I added hot and spicy chicken sauce. I cooked it for few minutes and when it is cooked, he pour more hot and spicy chicken sauce in it.

Macaroni Spaghetti with Black Olives

This is the spaghetti prepared and cooked by my husband last Friday as advance celebration of my birthday. He didn’t allow me in the kitchen while he is cooking so I enjoyed my time  designing a theme, when he is done cooking that’s when he called me to tasted it and make a critic.

He made a nice and delicious spaghetti that I ate all of this, lol. I was astonished with his ingredients little did I know that you can add black olives in spaghetti, in Philippines mostly the ingredients of our typical spaghetti is hotdog and meat. Anyway instead of using ground beef he used Cajun sausage which he ground in the blender. Then when it is cooked we added mozzarella cheese.,

How My Husband and I Celebrated My Birthday

Today is my birthday but my husband and I celebrated it in advance. We started it last Friday, he cooked macaroni spaghetti for me. Yes you heard it right he is the chef of the day, he added black olives and ground Cajun sausage.

Then when it is cooked we went out to buy cake, mozzarella cheese and some pastries. We  went to Paris Baguette and I choose milk chocolate cake to have a change. I always choose chocolate cake on my previous birthday celebration eh, so this time still chocolate cake but with milk., Haha

Paris Baguette Chocolate Cake

On the next day we headed to Popeyes to order chicken and biscuits, we didn’t make it on the previous night because we are too full, so we have two days celebration. While we are waiting for our order we walked around the supermarket and bought a spreadable butter.

Then we had a competition who’s going to arrive in Paris Baguette first, we took different route with an agreement nobody will run just to win. Well I arrived in Paris Baguette first without running because I just walk straight unlike him he needs to walk around.

We bought profiterole and baguette from Paris Baguette and few more pastries. My husband says when we are already outside the door of the bakery,  the store clerk might think we are pigs, because the other night we just bought a cake and pastries and that night we bought more pastries.

Just want to say thank you for all the greetings, and to the person (J) who made a long week celebration of my birthday, thank you very much.
