Samgyeopsal – Pork Barbecue

Samgyeopsal is a popular Korean dish, every where you can see barbecue or grill restaurants in Korea. Anyway I didn’t finish the work out I left the gym first so I can go to Noghyup Supermarket and shop for pork meat. I bought 1.5 kilos of meat marinated in soy sauce with carrots and onions.

I barbecued the meat in our balcony, I just opened the window and put the electric grill in top of the washing machine. It took me one hour to barbecue all of them.

Deep Fried Chicken

Eating fast food is the easiest way to feed our hungry stomach. As I am quite busy these past few days I am not able to update this blog everyday, well few days ago we are both hungry for Kentucky fried chicken but since we moved to Shinha which is 4km from the main town having KFC is not that good idea especially when you are little lazy to travel and walk around.

Instead we shopped at Lotte Super nearby and look around their instant food/meal on sale. They have different of fast food in one both like bbimbap, chicken, duck meat, dumplings, meat, barbecue and etc.,

We found this fried chicken very cheap compare buying from other shop and fast food stores. The number of chicken are enormous, the sales clerk asked us something but since we couldn’t understand we just shake our head up and down. We are instructed to wait for 5 minutes it turns out she deep fried them again, once they were handed back to me I know the chicken was burnt or have been over fried.

The chicken was already fried, it should be reheated only but I don’t know what happened in the kitchen.

Aparment in Shinha-ri

Before my husband accepted the new offer of the company he is working with, we visit first the school and the neighborhood to see if it is okay to live around like if there are shops, gym and other amenities around. We found a lot of luxury apartment in the neighborhood and we are hoping we could stay in any of them as the the company directors asked my husband if what type of apartment we want, is it house or officetel or what they called condotel.

So when we found that the neighborhood is friendly in terms of open access to everything my husband accepted the job and few days after his old contract expired we move to Shinha-ri.

Icheon City Hall

We went to Icheon City Hall today to report the change of our address. It should be included when we renew our visa in Suwon immigration but when the immigration officer noticed that we didn’t transfer yet she didn’t allow us to change our address. Instead she told us to return after 14 days  to report it but my husband think it is too much hassle to travel to Suwon just to report the address change he asked for an alternative and the immigration officer told us to go to the city hall to report it.

At first my husband doesn’t want to report it because he said it is going to be his last year in Korea as he is not planning to renew his contract anymore and eying to move to another country. The problem though I have to return to Suwon immigration next month after I got my new passport from the embassy as I just renew a day ago, and I also told my husband as what I have heard from Filipino  Korean wives that unable to report the address changes will cost a fine of KRW 5,000,000 which I think very costly.

Well I thought I knew where is Icheon City Hall so we took bus #8 from Shinha-ri and get off at the front of the “city hall” in front of the big stadium but it turns out it is not the city hall it is an Art Hall.  With the help of the map handed to us by the immigration officer we are able to find the city hall we just went the main street and turn right and walk straight when we reached the intersection Buak-ru we turn left and about five minutes we found the Police Station and the city hall.

As my husband’s co-teacher instruction we went to #3 desk and informed the woman what we want. We are given a form to fill-up like the application form in the immigration and we returned it to her with our ARC when we are done, we waited for few minutes and we had our ARC with new address written at the back.

The city hall was very friendly and relaxing it is more like of a library, garden and spa’s waiting area unlike the city hall in the Philippines which is too noisy and crowded sometimes.

Dumpling Soup

I have been hooked up playing Candy Crush Saga in Facebook when my husband asked me how willing I am to go downstairs and buy Tteokbokki and mandu, I just replied I will buy later and continue to play the game. I have been trapped for two days already in Level 27 of Candy Crush Saga and I don’t want my life to be wasted again and again.

While playing I have noticed he is preparing food in the kitchen so I get up and asked if he don’t like Tteokbokki anymore. Little did I know my husband is waiting for me to get up and he think I am not interested so he prepared a meal with gochujang instead. Anyway to cut the story short I went down to the nearby canteen and ordered “Mandu” the woman says “guk” I just said yes thinking she is saying cook, the mandu to be cook. I waited and sit in one of the vacant chairs,  there’s two middle school student eating and two little girls which I think her kids.

When she is already preparing the dumplings or mandu I think something is wrong I am expecting a steamed dumplings but as what I am seeing she is making a soup,  oh well it was really a soup. I paid for my order though it is not the first thing in my mind but I have said yes when she asked me isn’t it?

I bought Tteokbokki on the first floor of the apartment building and went back to our apartment. The soup tastes good and it is my favorite at this time, I will probably choose this one over the instant fresh noodles I am buying in GS25.

A Day in Icheon

I went to Icheon downtown yesterday to update my husband passbook and buy a bag of chicken. Luckily may T-money card has still load on it so I am able to use it when I took number 8 bus, I descend at Gwango-dong and then walk to KB star. After updating his passbook I walked at the shopping center to see what’s new, Tiny Winnie store was already closed and few men are reconstructing it, the last time we passed by the store the owners are boxing their items.

I went to Lotte Super before going to the bus stop near the World Mart, I bought bags of chicken, beans as well as vegetables like carrot and zucchini I have no more food to eat because I didn’t buy a lot when we shopped.  After shopping I went to the bus stop and while crossing the street number 8 bus came and I run as fast as I can, I was bit late because the bus door was already closed when I arrived gladly the bus driver saw me and he opened the door, I was still grasping for air while looking for my T-money card on my wallet.

It was a short but fun day in Icheon downtown.

Burrito Korean Version

I am not sure what’s the name of this snack/bread so I just called it burrito a Korean version. This is one of my favorite, it consist of eggs, glass noodles, rice, kimchi, mayonnaise and some flavoring, it is a little spicy too.

We had short walk tonight as exercise, we first went to Nonghyup Bank to shred some papers and we also ended up buying ketchup at Nonghyup supermarket. After it we continue walking and cross the street and went back home from the other side and when we passed Lotte Super we went inside to buy bread and I found this treat for me.

A Very Cute Kitten

My family has a new kitten which I forgot to ask what’s its name again. My sister says they got this cute kitten from the house of their professor when they went there to do their group thesis.  Their professor and his family has five little kittens and they  are giving all of them to my sister because they are nasty, which means they poop inside their house.

My sister take only one kitten, she choose the female kitten.  This kitten is sweet and doesn’t give problems to them, she looks so chubby on the picture above, my sister says the kitten was playing when they took the photo.

Meeting a Friend in Seoul

These past few days I am not that active online anymore, I spend most of my time in the open forum reading stories and problems that’s why most of my blogs are not well updated because of my new habit. I want to go back online, do my task and design the themes but I am not always on the mood, I can’t focus probably because I am still trying to fit here in our new place.

Anyway I am going to the embassy in Seoul this Thursday to renew my passport and I will also make use the time to meet my friend in Seoul it was been a long time since the last time we met, probably two years have been past since our last meeting.

So I’ll be away for the whole day, my biggest problem right now is how to wake up early in the morning because I have to be in Seoul very early for my embassy appointment. I have to take a bus which takes one hour and a subway so I can reach our meeting point.

Smoked Chicken

My husband and I has  new favorite from GS25, that is smoked chicken.  This chicken is more juicy than the chicken drumsticks we usually buy at Gs25.  We just heat it in the microwave and it was ready to eat.

This smoked chicken is cheap than buying the whole chicken in the market and cooked it.
