Premium Meal from GS25

Eating the same meal every day is becoming boring so I have asked my husband if we can get an instant soup, he agreed with a plus what I mean to get pizza and chips as well. While at the convenience store I forgot about pizza, I walk repeatedly in the aisle and stay longer in the built-in open fridge where the sandwiches and pizza are. I know it was not sandwiched, without getting a hint what is it I took one of the premium meals at the bottom of the fridge.

Premium Meal

The premium meal cost ₩4, 000 or $3.72, it was a bit more expensive than the usual meal of meat, rice and kimchi. The premium meal has rice, pasta, vegetables, steak, chicken, mashed potato, sausage, pickles and corn salad, it is a complete package actually.

Popular Hispanic Food

When my husband contract expires next year we are planning to travel for six months to other part of Africa and South America, so we are learning Spanish language in preparation of our trip to Spanish language speaking country and preferably expecting to eat some popular Hispanic food as well.

Most countries that were colonized by Spain inherited Spanish cuisine,  like in the Philippines  tortas,  empanadas and plans are popular snacks and desserts so I am sure that we can find some of these popular Hispanic food in Peru and Paraguay too.

Insufficient Address: Return to Sender

My husband came home today with a brown envelope in his hand, the moment he told me that it was meant for me I feel excited already to see where it came from.  But seeing the familiar envelope made me realized it was a RETURN TO SENDER mail, it was a failed delivery because of insufficient address.

Return to Sender

I immediately contacted my friend who maybe patiently waiting for this mail about the delivery failure.  It turns out she forgot to write the street address, so I have to mail the postcards again whenever I went to downtown.

Jihoo and His Orange Ribbon

My sister uploaded new photos of Jihoo, I am amused at the picture below.  My sister found an old orange ribbon while cleaning inside our house, it was probably a ribbon we used when we are young,  she decided to play with Jihoo by putting it around his head and see how Jihoo likes it?

Calm Pet

He looks very calm and peaceful while playing asleep or maybe he is actually sleeping while there’s an orange ribbon around his head.

Hosting a Pig Roast? Here’s What to Serve Alongside Your Roast

Roasting a whole pig in a roasting box is a fantastic option for a party, wedding or other event. There is something inherently celebratory about roasting an entire animal on a spit and the delicious barbeque smell is sure to have everyone salivating.

When you are hosting a party with a pig roast hire, it is the big hunk of roasting pork that will certainly taste centre stage. However, it is also important to consider the condiments, sauces and side dishes that you offer along with it. Your guests will not want to just eat pork all by itself and if you serve the right side dishes they will complement the meat and make it even more enjoyable.

Prepare the Pig with a Marinade

If you want to spice up your pig roast and give it a bit of a different flavour, you can always rub the meat with a marinade that will offer it a bit more flavour throughout the process. For example, a tomato relish, a lemon salsa or a cherry sauce can really add a lot of delicious flavour to a roast pig, especially if it is added throughout the cooking process and allowed to soak into the meat.

Pig Roast

Corn on the Cob

A great accompaniment to any pig roast is some delicious creamy corn on the cob. Take some fresh corn and steam it, right in the husks themselves. Offer plenty of butter and salt for your guests so that they can season their own corn on the cob. This is a wonderful summer food and is perfect for an outdoor barbeque.

Coleslaw and Salad

Coleslaw is the perfect side dish for a pork roast for a couple of reasons. First of all, it is served chilled so it helps to contrast the temperature of the warm and juicy pig meat. Also, if the coleslaw has a lot of vinegar in it, this will help to cut through the greasiness in your mouth from the pig meat. This is why you will see many Southern USA barbeque places offering coleslaw as a side dish alongside their pulled pork.

Also, you will want to provide a few different types of salad as well, such as spinach salad, mixed green salad or Mexican inspired salad with salsa, avocado, carrot and corn.

Apple Sauce

Some things just go well together and pork and applesauce is one of those golden combinations. There is a perfect balance between the greasy, juicy, smoked barbeque flavour of the roast pork meat and the sweet, tangy, fruity and light applesauce. If you are serving up a pork roast, make sure that you have plenty of delicious chilled applesauce to serve alongside it.

Use Bramley cooking apples, peel them, chop them and bring them to a boil in a pan. Reduce and simmer until they are soft and pulpy. Then, remove the apples from the heat and beat them with a wooden spoon until they are smooth. Add in a little bit of butter and caster sugar to taste. Make sure that the apple sauce is nice and thick, so that it can be spooned onto the pork.

Baps, Potatoes or Rice?

There are a few options when it comes to serving a carbohydrate along with your pork roast. You might want to offer fresh and fluffy white or whole wheat burger buns. Your guests can put the pork meat on the bap, add the condiments of their choice (such as apple sauce, barbeque sauce, tomato sauce) and then enjoy. Also, sometimes a pork roast can go really well with rice as a side dish – such as a New Orleans style Cajun jambalaya or a South American inspired red beans and rice mixture. Another option is to offer potatoes, whether in the form of seasoned wedges, roasted potatoes or even jacket potatoes.

The answer will depend on the culinary theme of the event, the preferences of your guests and whether or not guests have utensils and a place to sit (rice or potatoes) or are simply snacking while standing (burger buns).

These are just a few ideas, but of course whatever you serve at your pig roast is up to you – so go with what you love!

Spending Chuseok at Home

As everyone else might know last week was a long holiday here in Korea, because of Chuseok (Thanksgiving day), it started from Wednesday up to Friday and then the weekends.  Unlike those previous holidays we just stayed home this year, we didn’t go to Philippines like last year because my husband still cannot get over with the slow process in our immigration and we also didn’t go to other big cities in Korea to do sightseeing.  We spend the holiday at home watching movies, reading and tinkering our genealogy program. Unlike those normal days, it was so quiet around no kids running and shouting in the street, most of the stores and establishments are closed too.

Chuseok

Anyway we celebrated Chuseok on Friday by grilling some meat that I bought before the long holiday and buying a chocolate cake from Paris Baguette which disgust my husband because he already informed me to buy different cake.

Sauteed Monggo Beans (Ginisang Monggo)

Cooking and eating Filipino food  is a luxury for me in Korea so I seldom shop for these type of food. Not just they’re bit expensive than the way they are used to be in the Philippines but because there’s only a few stores that sell Asian food. When I met my friends in Hyehwa I bought monggo beans, salty egg and smoked fish in the informal Filipino Market, the monggo beans which you could buy for 10-20 pesos is worth 175 pesos.

Ginisang Monggo

I sauteed the monggo beans the other day, I started by boiling the monggo beans in a separate pot. I almost forgot about it, I just remember when the water started to dry.  Next I did is saute garlic and onion in a separate pot and add the left over string beans, then water and monggo beans when brown. The water from the boiled monggo beans is also best to use but since I over boiled my monggo beans I have nothing else to use. When the vegetable is almost cooked I add lettuce and salt to taste.

Shopping at Lotte Super and Forgetting the Wallet at Home

I am being forgetful these days, it was been a few weeks already since I shopped alone for our groceries.  Yesterday I decided to go to Lotte Super first before shopping at the Nong Hyup Supermarket as I want to buy a jar of peanuts or sunflower seeds. I am almost at Lotte Super when I remember that I forgot to bring my husband’s wallet instead of going home I just went inside and look for the food I want I still have few wons on my wallet. But of course I have to go home again to get the wallet as my money is not enough for groceries unlike those times I forgot to bring my husband’s wallet I have cash on me.

EMS Rates from Korea to Philippines

With the allowance I am receiving from my husband I have money to spend on my personal things and treats when I am hungry and craving for chocolates. My favorite store to visit when I have already my monthly allowance is Watsons and Missha, I love shopping at Watsons and Missha because they are always on sale from shampoo , lotions, moisturizers and many more.

EMS Korea Rates

With my habit of buying beauty products on sale, I didn’t notice that I have collected a lot of them. I am not really that vain to use all the products, lotion and shampoo is enough for me. So what I did is to send those extra items home, the post office woman gave the EMS price list to me when I keep asking about the rates, as I am planning to host a blog giveaway. It was a big help, instead of asking every time for the price when I have to send a box home I can just look at the price list and control/track how much money I am going to spend for a particular weight. The rates went up explaining why I have two price list, the second booklet is the new one. I asked for one copy when I saw it on her table.

Packed Meals from Hansot (한솥)

It was raining hard today and we are bored and hungry so I went to 한솥 near the HBC Chicken, we’ve been wishing to try their meal and this is the right time because it is still early and the restaurant might still open unlike those times we crave it is already wee hours. They have no English menu, but their menu board has image on them so I just point the food I want to order.

Meal from 한솥

I am expecting to wait longer but within five minutes my order was already handed to me, super quick huh? I went to Paris Baguette nearby after I got my order to buy brownies but I ended up buying another baked good as well.

Meal from 한솥

The meal was superb, they tasted good and better than the meal I used to buy in convenience store probably because they are fresh and not refrigerated.  Their meals are good for students who are bringing a lunch box at school and even packed meals, picnic, lunch and dinner.
