What to Wear to a 50th Wedding Anniversary: Choosing the Perfect Shoes

Shopping has always been a kind of therapy for me. Two years ago, I went through one of those phases when I bought quite a lot of things—from dresses to shoes and sandals.

The funny thing is that I hardly wore most of them.

I was perfectly happy keeping them in my closet, thinking that I would eventually have the perfect occasion to use them. But when that occasion finally came, some of my shoes weren't in such great condition anymore.

This was especially true with some of my Natasha shoes and sandals. I had only worn them once, but after sitting in my closet for a long time, the material started to peel and deteriorate. They practically collected dust while waiting for their next opportunity to go out.

My sister told me that's apparently how some of those shoe's work—the longer you leave them unused, the more likely the material is to deteriorate. On the other hand, wearing them regularly supposedly keeps the material more flexible.

So much for saving my shoes for a special occasion! 😅

What Should I Wear to a Golden Wedding Anniversary?

Tomorrow, my eldest aunt and her husband will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, also known as their Golden Wedding Anniversary.

They will have a renewal of vows and a wedding anniversary party, and everyone in the family has been encouraged to dress up and look glamorous if possible.

Which, of course, means I have a problem:

What am I going to wear?

I had to dig through my closet to see what I could find.

Fortunately, I remembered a pair of shoes I bought from Zalora about two years ago. They were a little expensive compared with some of the other shoes I had bought, but I have to admit—they were worth it.

Unlike some of my other shoes, these had survived being stored in my closet. They were still in good condition and only needed a little cleaning because they had collected dust over the years.

I guess sometimes spending a little more on something really does pay off.

The Golden Yellow Dress

Since it's a Golden Wedding Anniversary, the theme for the celebration is golden yellow.

I tried on a bridesmaid-style dress, hoping it might work for the occasion.

Let's just say...

I looked like a pig in it. 😂

Needless to say, I immediately started looking for other options.

Finding the right dress is already difficult enough. Finding the right shoes to match makes it even harder.

Red Shoes or Something More Traditional?

My biggest dilemma now is deciding which shoes to wear.

I really like the red pair, and thankfully, my sister likes them too. I think the red shoes would add a nice pop of color to the outfit.

Unfortunately, my mother doesn't agree.

She thinks I should choose something more appropriate for the occasion.

So now I'm caught between:

Me + my sister: “Wear the red shoes!”

Mother Earth: “No!”

😂

I still haven't made up my mind.

Maybe I'll try everything on again tomorrow and see which combination looks best. After all, a 50th wedding anniversary only happens once, and I might as well look my best while celebrating such a special milestone with my aunt and uncle.

Now, if only I could find a dress that doesn't make me look like a pig!
