Hanging Out at Crazy Ground Snack Bar After School

It was almost three weeks since my last update on this blog, life have been so busy for me in school. Quizzes, assignments, diagnostic test and then mid-term examination which is supposedly scheduled this week, but with the busy schedule of the faculty it will be move next week.

We didn’t have a class yesterday, our instructor was exhausted from traveling out of town just to be a member of the panel for the pre-service teachers, so I and two of my friends decided to eat out. We’ve been asking each other where to eat, then I remember the newly opened comfort food restaurant/snack bar in Odiongan called Crazy Ground so we went in there to try it, it was a perfect place to hang-out because I am feeling crazy yesterday after a short talk with one of our instructors, my sensitivity and over thinking collides.

Crazy Ground was house at the closed Orient Cuisine restaurant, I thought it was owned by different person, but upon going in, I have found out that Crazy Ground and the closed Orient Cuisine has the same owner. As I remember before Crazy Ground opens, Orient Cuisine was looking for a cook, maybe they didn’t find one so they venture to a new one, well my speculation might be wrong.

Crazy Ground is perfect for students alike or people trying to eat budget food since it wasn’t that costly. We have ordered their Tuna Carbonara ₱85 and Oreo Blast Milk tea ₱70 and Crazy Ground Special ₱65 for one friend. Our milk tea was served within 15 minutes and the carbonara follow after 4 minutes. The milk tea was good but would be nice if it is a little more cooler, the pasta was good as well, it is savory.

Crazy Ground serves different type of snacks according to your liking or taste bud, they have chips, burgers, potatoes, street food platters, milk teas, hot drinks and rice meals.

JL Fryday: Pigging Out with Pasta and Burger

We are dismissed early yesterday from class and since my friend and I were both starving, we decided to go inside the fast food chain Jollibee and while in there my friend (W) suggested why not try our friend (M) newly opened restaurant for a change, so we  went out and take a tribike to JL Fryday.

JL Fryday

It is a new branch of JL Fryday which had opened a week ago and from typical fries and drinks they tried offering pasta, burger and rice meals for affordable price.  They have three different flavors of pasta, so I have asked our owner friend (M) what is the difference between Chicken Alfredo and Ala Pobre, she said that Chicken Alfredo is in white sauce and Ala Pobre is more of just oil pasta, I have concluded it might be Aglio e Olio pasta so I have ordered it and with other food in their menu chart

Pasta ala Pobre

Pasta Ala Pobre for ₱100

Spaghetti

Spaghetti for ₱100

Onion Fries

Onion Fries 200g ₱40

The food was served within 20 minutes, I have ordered their biggest bucket of fries at 200g, Pasta ala Pobre, Pasta Chicken Alfredo for take-out, JL’s Burger and a glass for their fresh mango graham smoocheese (smoothies), while my friend (W) ordered their spaghetti, sloppy Jan’s burger and a glass of dewberry.

JL's Burger, Meat Burger

JL’s Burger for ₱55

Sloppy Jan’s Burger for ₱55

The Pasta ala Pobre is an oil pasta cooked in a spicy mackerel, the pasta came in bigger servings compare to the pasta at D’ Line Kitchen where it is not even enough for one person, eating the fries in onion flavor and the pasta made me full and I have thought I can’t eat the burger anymore after drinking a glass of mango graham but the appetizing look of the burger with cucumber, tomatoes and cheese and it’s juicy nature made me to eat more.  I have to order a bottle of coke because it made me so thirsty and crave for a cola, I have even joked our owner friend (M) if they don’t serve free water in their restaurant, they do, but it turns out the water container were empty because it was past lunch when we arrived at JL Fryday, it was siesta time actually.

Smoothies, Fresh Mango Graham Smoothies

Fresh Mango Graham for ₱49

Smoothies, Dewberry Smoothies

Dewberry for ₱29

I wanted to try their Pasta Chicken Alfredo so I ordered a take-out, but then I have decided to order Pasta Ala Pobre and spaghetti as well to bring home. My friend (W) wasn’t able to finish her spaghetti so she had it take out and ordered chicken fun shots for her son which is left at home in the care of her mother.

takeout, spaghetti

Well, aside from burgers and pasta JL Fryday also served rice meals for the affordable price of ₱69. If you wanted to try something new in an affordable price visit them below.

Our Dull and Plain Boodle Fight Platter at D’ Curve Foodhouse

It was only a week ago when my friends and I had dinner at the newly opened restaurant in town called D’ Line Kitchen, and we have decided to see each other again at lunch at another newly opened restaurant called D’ Curve Foodhouse which is boasting their boodle fight platter menu.

D’ Curve Foodhouse was opened on August 08, it is located at Brgy. Poctoy, just a few meters away from the bridge of Torrel-Dapawan, the restaurant used to be an abandoned white house along the curb.

Most of us were late at our agreed time of 10 o’clock in the morning because of the pouring rain, the moment you go inside their very courteous server will greet you. Unlike D’ Line Kitchen which is very bold and plain, D’ Curve  Foodhouse has a very impressive look inside, from the curtains, wallpapers, furniture’s and etc.,

We’ve met because one of our highschool classmate who was stationed in Odiongan would like to see us all, I guess he envy our dinner meeting a week ago.  We’ve ordered their Municipyo platter of D’ Curve’s  Fiesta, which cost ₱1,749, the menu consists of Sweet and Chilli Crabs, Garlic Shrimps, Crispy Liempo, Grilled Fish, Chicken Inasal, Chicken Adobo sa Gata, Pork Sisig, Laing, Steamed Rice with Crispy Danggit.

The food was served within thirty minutes or more, but we didn’t notice the waiting time because we’re too busy talking as if we didn’t see each other a week ago. We are all in awe when the boodle fight platter was served, we couldn’t just believed what we saw. One of my friends blurted out, that maybe next time we should just buy and prepare our own food, seconded by many.

The boodle fight platter was very dull and simple, it wasn’t that attractive at all, it was like the food we’ve ordered were just toppled all together in a banana leaf, what I mean there was no design, nor effort in preparing the boodle fight platter, they could at least add onions, chili pepper, cucumber, tomatoes or calamansi or whatever the cheapest greens or vegetable/fruit in the market they could get to make the platter attractive or appetizing to eat.

Chicken Adobo sa Gata

Their Pork Sisig has a dull taste, it is given because they are not Ghetto Plates

We’ve almost finished our food when the male server came, saying they forgot to add the garlic shrimps, one of my friend took it and pour them down on our food,  we didn’t mind the shrimps being served late because at least they remember, right?

The shrimps that were forgotten to be included in the boodle fight platter

It also says in their menu that there will be crispy danggit in the platter, but we are surprised to see fried tuyo (dried fish) instead, I know it is a common courtesy to inform your customer first before changing something in their order but they have failed on this, but since it danggit wasn’t the main dish it wasn’t an issue, we ate our food without realizing something was missing, we’ve been busy talking and laughing together.

Well, the food was ok, the liempo for me is just a bit salty, but it is tolerable, the chilli crabs were just fine as well as the other viand and the Chicken Inasal… is tasteless because they didn’t serve or add chicken inasal in our platter, yes you read it right! D’ Curve forgot to serve the Chicken Inasal when it is included in the food we have ordered.

It was late when I or we realized that we are robbed of Chicken Inasal, if I haven’t look at my photos again I will not noticed it, to be sure if I was not mistaken, that maybe the chicken inasal was served in a different platter and I wasn’t able to take a photo of it, I have asked my friends and they confirmed they didn’t serve chicken inasal to us.

We stayed a little bit after eating our lunch because we are waiting for another friend who is coming from afar, she was late because it is hard to travel to town when raining.  When she arrived, we moved to another location to get  a coffee.

D’ Curve Foodhouse looks promising they just failed in completing our orders when it wasn’t that busy when we had our  lunch, we are the only people who were there, new people only arrive when our food was already served. One of my friend says, we should just let it passed because they were a new restaurant but when you heard a different story from a friend that they were served a different food from what they have ordered is another juicy story.

Well, I think it is better if their restaurant wasn’t house in a house, I mean it is more appropriate or it will be a hit if their restaurant was built in a native hut, have native displays and furniture, like Laszaji Grill since their serving food in a native or traditional Filipino way.

D’ Line Kitchen: A Newly Opened Restaurant in Odiongan

Almost over a year since we last met, my friends and I decided to see each other again for  dinner to a newly opened restaurant called D’ Line Kitchen in town. One of our friends came home from abroad and the other celebrated her birthday a few days ago, we have agreed to meet at 4 o’clock in the afternoon and as expected, we are very loud and glad to see each other again, as if we rented the whole place for us.

We’ve ordered while waiting for the others, when I arrived there were three of our friends already waiting.  G and I arrived at the same time, so we have ordered the same time.  The food was served together as we requested, I wasn’t able to track down the time how long they were served because we are all busy chit chatting.

Oriental Seafood Pasta for ₱180

D’ Line Kitchen was opened on August 3, it was located at D’ Fourth building which used to be a disco bar, the place was spacious and best for a large group to dine in. The place was very simple and not much to admire except the gothic combination of dark tables and white tiled floor as well as the look of their modern reception bar/kitchen.

Shrimp Dynamite for ₱195

The food was expensive compare to other restaurants in town, especially they only come in small servings, yes the food is only good for one and maybe two if you are a small eater.  For me their food is lacking of something, some were a bit oily and salty, especially their garlic rice, which is burnt (maybe because they’ve used oyster sauce as two of my friends claimed) and way too salty, you can still taste the salt in it.  It was garlic rice, but I can’t find a stronger taste of garlic in it, honestly my sister’s garlic rice is way better than this.  It was expensive when it was only good for two people or one if you are a bit hungry.

Garlic Rice ₱150

What wowed me is their Tomato Basil Pasta with breaded Chicken, it catches my taste bud but it is quite expensive for ₱200, I need more pasta than the chicken.

Tomato Basil Pasta with breaded Chicken ₱200

What I have ordered is pancit canton since most of my friends ordered pasta and we both agreed to order a different type of food so we can share each food. The pancit canton was served in a small fan, it was a bit oily and salty. I don’t know if they used too much soy sauce, or the dried noodles is salty or is it the kikiam making the noodles salty? The pancit canton has not much vegetables in it, well given that it has a lot of kikiam toppings I don’t think I should complain about it.

Pancit Canton for ₱150

The restaurant was on their second day when we came in but it wasn’t that busy as expected for a newly opened restaurant, I wonder if we are just way too early or maybe it wasn’t advertised properly. It was over six in the evening when we left and there was only one family who came to eat.

Creamy Mussels for ₱180

Mango Cilantro Chicken for ₱150

We’ve been talking about the food when suddenly the man sitting nearby our table came in and asked about the food, he introduces his self as the restaurant chef and did a handshake with a friend. My friends answered that the food was okay, but if he will ask me, I will definitely say “can you add more pasta in my plate?”, anyway, I voiced out my opinion that their garlic rice is salty  (lol).

Chicken Fingers for ₱150

Salmon Belly Fish and Chips for ₱150

The dessert below were two pieces Bollycao for ₱100,  Bollycao is the Spanish version of French croissants, and the frozen cheesecake for ₱180 each.

The restaurant is a bit expensive for a normal Odionganon, especially the food came in small servings, but their food is a must try if you are already tired of eating braised or fried chicken, their servers were kind and helpful. The restaurants need more improvements to make it look classy, I think it will be nice if they don’t leave the walls empty.

Classic Carbonara for ₱150

If you want to try  Spanish and Italian food visit them at:

Eating Late Lunch at Ashley Bakeshop and Restaurant

My postal ID was already expired for two months and I just renewed it today, my mother and BIL went to town so I went with them and since we are starving for running a few errands in town we’ve decided to eat at Ashley Bakeshop and Restaurant near the new market.

We are frequent at the bakeshop buying breads, pastries, pizzas and even ordering takeouts sometimes, we have already dined in before but I was too procrastinated to blog about it.  Before, I texted my sister that we are at Ashley I have already ordered something for her, it is her birthday today. She is at work but she is able to go out for a few minutes as long as she asked for permission.

Ordering take only 15 minutes and as usual I have ordered AM7 for us, this meal consists of rice and fried chicken, pancit canton and ice tea for drinks,  but my mother wanted something new so she ordered halo-halo and pizza for herself.

If you are hungry  and wanted to eat a full meal for inexpensive price Ashley Bakeshop and Restaurant is one of your best alternative in town, their menu is inexpensive and comes in big servings.

The Blocked: The New Burger Restaurant in Odiongan

It’s Father’s Day. Sunday afternoon and there was nothing else to do after going to church in the morning, we did a short road trip to the municipality of Ferrol, but actually we didn’t continue to the town proper, we did a U-turn and went back to Odiongan where we ate at the newly opened burger place, The Blocked.

The enthusiastic server gladly welcomed us at the restaurant, she handed us their menu after we are seated. As I look around,  the burger place has a western touch, just like the restaurant bars in Itaewon, there are different set of options in the menu for over ₱100, it was hard for us to choose which set to eat, the potato wedges weren’t available, so I have asked the server, which one is the best, she gladly explained every option and suggests the options that she’ll think we’d like and even suggested if we would like a serving of garlic chicken.

We ordered one fresh strawberry milkshake for my mother, two options of Prep, one Nerd and a serving of garlic chicken, each meal option has a free glass of blue lemonade.  While waiting for our order, I have asked my sister to go home and bring our father to the burger restaurant, but she said, he already had a glass of liquor and he can’t drive (but when we arrived home, he is totally fine, and even sulk why we didn’t bring him to the burger restaurant, lol).

Our order was served in twenty minutes, my mother and sister enjoyed their meal because they said it tasted good, but I wasn’t because I am still full from our snack and I didn’t like the burger, it has the taste of mustard sauce in it, the smell brought me back to South Korea and the mustard sauce I can’t even finish at home.

Well, I have not told anyone yet in this blog, but I am already tired of mustard sauce, eating beef burger with mustard sauce, the taste of it is making me puke already, when we are traveling if we are not eating a beef burger, we are eating sandwiches. I just ate my fries and chicken and wrap the burger to bring it home to my father as well as the garlic chicken I have ordered, my mother and sister was already full with their meal so they can’t help me eat the garlic chicken. The chicken was  a bit oily, so I have used the paper towel at the table which I think has extra pay because there was an additional fee in our bill (or is it for a takeout additional fee?), well some restaurant in other countries I have been  to, add additional charges if you used wet tissues.

You know what’s funny when I stand up from my chair and did a second look at my payment that’s where I realized I forgot to put another bill,  I put 10% extra, but then the money I left wasn’t enough (haha), so I immediately grab for my wallet. Jezz, I am trying to do something good, but it looks like I will end up being embarrassed if I didn’t glance back at the table, the server called my attention that I still have a change but I just nod and left.  My mother and sister laugh at me, retelling how once upon a time I left more than 20% tip when I said it was just 10% (I am floating at times).

The Blocked, is a newly opened burger restaurant in Odiongan. Their place was an old warehouse for copra (dried coconut kernels), and after a few renovations and enhancements, The Blocked arises. If you are looking for something new and tired of eating the usual burger you buy from the streets and students canteens, pay them a visit and try them. Their food is fine, the chicken wings were just  a bit too tiny for me (hahaha). Well, you get what you pay for!
